The Concepts Book Series

Over the last two months I have become much clearer about the overall structure of the book series that I am writing. Called, The Concepts Series, it draws on my working experiences and the lifelong learning that I have been engaged in. This blog post describes my current thinking about the through-line of these books.

This is obviously a work in early progress. In the interests of Working Out Loud, I thought it would be good to share where I am up to. Inevitably, much will likely change as I work through this in the coming years. It’s a massive project – and I am really excited to be working on it.

So, here is the through-line:

  • Book one – Values Count, the book about how important values are as a compass to the way in which we work, and a set of examples of this. Published in 2017.
  • Book two – Insight Coaching, the book about my own coaching practices with practical ideas for the reader, and the beginnings of the concept of insight coaching. Published in 2020.
  • Book three – The Journey to Wonder, the book about inspiration that explains where inspiration comes from and how to apply it, combined with the journey of my own sources of inspiration to a sense of wonder. This book has been gestating for at least a couple of years, and I am hopeful to conclude it in the next few months.
  • Book four – Collaboration as Co-Creation, this is probably the sub-title rather than the title. The book that describes my path to understanding how to collaborate, those I have collaborated with (in theory and practice), and the models that we have developed. I’m starting work on this, currently in the outline stage.
  • Book five – Flower Intuition, the book about the role of intuition in my work, drawing on Burne-Jones and his book of flowers, myth and intuitive practice. Growing from the chapter in my thesis on grace, magic and miracles.
  • Book six – Coaching Alchemy, bringing alchemy into the coaching practice and further developing the insight approach to coaching.
  • Book seven – Empowerment, all that I have learnt throughout my career about empowerment, democracy and where power lies.
  • Book eight – Legacy, early ideas about archiving, the archivist, curation etc. This may also be the space to share transition journeys, sabbaticals and reflection.
  • Book nine – Creativity, a book that brings together the many creative approaches I use, have adopted, adapted and created. I will also describe the work of many of the amazingly creative people I have been lucky to work with over the years.
  • Book ten – Archetypal Coaching, the book that draws from my thesis and shows how archetype can be a powerful tool in coaching and transformational change. I think this book may emerge earlier in the sequence as I am really keen to get on and write this book!

So there you have it – an outline of the 10 books that I have in mind for this series. I’m always interested in comments, views, reactions and ideas.
