A couple of months ago I started working with a Writing Coach. The criteria for finding the right person was that it needed to be someone whose writing I enjoyed reading, and someone who also had the ability to push my work forwards. Ideally, it also needed to be someone with ideas about writing in the internet world.
After a few weeks narrowing down what I was looking for, I noticed a few synchronicities that pointed me to Andrew Dubber. I approached him and at first he was a little cautious. He hadn’t done anything quite like it before but was interested in the idea as an experiment.
Well, we have spoken three times via Skype.
The last time we spoke I was describing some of the written material which I have amassed which came from my PhD thesis (90,000 words). In addition to the thesis itself I also have a comprehensive Learning Journal (110,000 words) and a set of half written articles. These are all focused on organisational change. It seemed a shame to leave all this material to gather dust (albeit digital dust!)
Andrew asked me whether I had ever considered producing Kindle books. Now that really fired me up. Since we spoke I have been looking at the behind the scenes mechanics of producing Kindle books. It’s not complicated at all. In fact, I found a really useful free Kindle book that explains it all.
I’ve also been thinking through the best way to slice up the materials and rewrite them in a more accessible format. If you have any ideas about this please do let me know. It’s early stages yet, but I am really excited about developing a new publishing venture.
