As I write this, I am about to take a break for a few days. In the run up to it I am in the usual heat and frenzy of clearing the decks, getting stuff done and cutting a dash before I head for the imaginary door. It’s such a productive time. Over the years I have worked on ways that simulate this sense of urgency, create a squeeze within which to get things done and thereby generate the deep focus that is needed to produce work of high quality.
Sometimes our minds are clever at what they do and what they produce, other times we can fool them just by creating a sense of urgency and imminence. Then we knuckle down and things just flow.
