Here is some early thinking on plans for the next iteration of BlueWater Books.
In 2004 I set up a small publishing press called BlueWater Books. The title was taken from two of my earliest poetry collections – ‘Sharp Blue Breath’ and ‘Edge of Water’. I set out to produce hand-crafted booklets of my own work. Throughout that year I produced two booklets. The first ‘Zen Words’ was the latest collection of poetry at that time. The second, ‘Umbrian Images’, was an earlier collection. I produced very limited editions of these booklets (100 of each) and distributed them to friends. It was fun to experiment. I even had an approach from another author to see if I was interested in publishing one of his collections. This had never been the intention, so it was never pursued.
I didn’t produce anymore booklets in the series and BlueWater Books went quiet for a long hiatus.
But…
I had always intended to return to this idea in time. As I said in yesterday’s blog post, I will have more time in the coming weeks. At last it is time to develop the next phase of BlueWater Books. The second coming 🙂
Of course, the world has changed since 2004. Back then my publishing ventures amounted to struggling with a home printer until I got the text aligned and using the best quality art paper I could find for the covers. It was equal parts fun and frustration. Since then, it is now possible to produce PDF files and share those. I have been doing this for a while now anyway, and intend to continue to make PDF versions available. Thanks to online publishing facilities like lulu.com and CreateSpace it is possible to produce print on demand books too.
I am also still interested in small print runs of carefully produced booklets that have something individual about them.
So…
Expect more news in the coming weeks about this. And if you are interested in this, do get in touch. I’d like to hear from you.
P.S. The contacts page is the best way to get in touch. I have finally given up on using the comments facility on this site as I can’t stop shedloads of spam appearing daily and needing to be deleted.
