Blue 1.0

I wrote about plans for a new sequence of poems here. Over the next three posts I will be sharing a poem from each of the first three sequences about Blue. This one is from the first sequence ‘sharp blue / breath’. The title, ‘calling card’, is an oblique reference to a line from an early song by Ultravox! from their best period when John Foxx was still their singer.

calling card

If you have things to do
i will leave my calling card
by the door across the court-yard.

It was six years ago i first met you
we waved across a busy bar
i thought we had met
you thought my face was familiar
not true
but soon we were too truly familiar
you and i ran endlessly
searching countries and continents
until our restless wanderings settled
and we drifted slowly apart.

Six months and now here in your hallway
i leave my card a memory
to your past and mine entwined.
