Being My Authentic Self

Who was it who said be the best version of yourself, because everyone else is taken? It was Oscar Wilde of course. When we are struggling with the hand that is dealt us, that is a time when it is really important to work out where and how to compromise. To ease the pain, but be really clear about the red lines. Be absolutely resolute about our deeper values, the things that stir at our core: those things that are painful when someone attacks them whether actively or accidentally.

Working this out is the route to being our true selves. This is how we celebrate out eccentric selves to the full. It’s not about fitting in – it’s about revelling in the wonder of the world, being excited by things because they affect us emotionally whether or not anyone else enjoys it.

Dance the dance that only you can dance. Speak your truth and push on through.

Just be sure to have those around you who can be your “wing wo/man”, your support when things get tough. Standing out from the crowd can be challenging – but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t. Build your own supporters network – people whose work and values you admire, and who you can depend on for deep support when you need it.

And just hang on in there. Because you are living the life you were meant to live. Be inspired, be inspiring. Grab the passion and push on through.
